ORI Halloween fun run

On October 23rd at 9AM,

ORI to host a Trail Run on the Exit 28 Devils Throne property . The run will follow a section of the XO250 course and would offer from 4x4 stock rigs (easier than Steve's loop but not car friendly) to hardcore that will be visible to the Stockers. The Semi-stockers and bigger will run through D9 Canyon to Meekers pond where we will set up BBQ's for people to use to cook burgers, chicken, hot dogs whatever you want to grill. The road will offer bypasses and some exit options.

We are looking at if we can get the BBQ trailer in there but may need to take in regular propane BBQ's we can put in the back of a pickup.

Troof !! the wittle guys got all when me and blue went out last time and they couldn't hang... I guess they just have to run bigger doughnuts... Hell my rig ain't shit but I still had fun bein full sized leaf sprung and runnin 44's, I just wish I had better gearing and a stronger motor then... Shawn, Thanks for the SBC.... Just ran into a few snags that'll get remidied here soon, hope to get back out soon...

Stockers had there own trail. We went down a fun little section of the race course. I had a good time. Hope you had fun at Moonrocks but this was pretty damn cool. I flopped on a spot I probably shouldn't have but was funny was just as someone was saying those drops look bad and as soon as I said they don't look too bad my jeep endoed..Phil flipped me back over added some fluid and we were on our way.

Yeah, that's where I did it. I spotted a guy over a spot then tried to do the same line. My front right fell in and I didn't realize I was in an undercut. Broke the u-joint.

So a few spots up the trail while I was trying to get out in three wheel drive I broke the rear. I was trying to nose up a rock and the front to drop over to the left, then it just popped.

I knew it was going to happened. I called it before I even when in. Just being dumb I guess. Anyway, time to start saving up some cash for some bling 60's.

I almost flopped it coming off the trailer but was able to gas out of it. There were several rigs that broke axle shafts. My dana still holding strong...for now. hahahaha There was one spot right after the big brop in that section that didn't look like much till you started going up it and the jeep just kept lifting...there is some nice neon green paint out there now.

We would like to thank all who attended the Halloween Fun Run. Everything went as smooth as could be despite a roll over and broken axles. Buggies sure made short order of Shotgun Canyon as to be expected. Couple issues by the modified wheelers, but overall, a great run. Stock to mild modified rigs had no issues apart from a little mud.
The rain brought the BBQ indoors but still went on without a hitch. Keep a look out on our website for the next trail run.

You don't need bling 60's. I ran Spicer shafts and u-joints for a long time with water in the front tires. I wore the needle bearings out before I broke anything.

Yeah, so true! i ran toyota axles with 42's and water for several years. looking at the video you were "gettin' " it when you broke. 44 & Toy stuff will last a LONG time if you keep your foot out of it.

I'm still running my 44 and since I upgraded the shafts I haven't broken one yet. I like throttle but I know undercut ledges play hell and bouncing is something i avoid. I just need to get my brakes under control so I have better control when descending stuff. Plus Phil you jinxed yourself by mentioning the axles in a previous post...

I understand what you're saying, but it's not like you have to be easy on your rig because you're running Spicer stuff. Stock 60 stuff is considerably stronger than the best 44 stuff you can find.

4k might be high, but they are already setup for 4link, disc brakes, drive flange, and all that. Don't know if they have lockers in them though.

Or, I can get a stock Dodge D44 put it in my Dodge and put the D60 from it under by buggy!

What I'm really going to do is just replace the busted shafts and go wheeling (already ordered).

When I get rich I'm going to go with that Sixty9+Ruff Stuff housing at both ends with the SpiderTrax 50 knuckles and all the bling. Or just go with the Spider9 full setup. I want to be high pinion to get my drive shaft above the links.

If you just slap some mogs under a frame/chassis then ya it will be tall but if you build around them and still can have a low rig with lots of ground clearance. As tall as my jeep is Im ammazed how it sits compared to other jeeps (not buggies) on 40+ tires.

My biggest concern about my mogs is breakage. I havent broken anything but its gonna happen sooner than later and like rockape says parts are not at your local auto parts store. I can get them overnighted but it would be nice to know that within your wheelin group there's plenty of parts to make any repair needed on the trail. I dont have that luxury...

Looking back If I had to re-do it I would avoid portals.

404's are hard to keep in one piece at the levels most wheel these days. the 416 / 9 combo is pretty bad ass, but at $15+k for a set is pretty expensive. did you guys see that portal "like" axle Ian on Xtreme was building? the one that uses CV's in the housing to raise the center section giving "portal" like clearance. they look EXPENSIVE! AND, i'm not convinced about his comment of how high HP offroad rigs use the 914 CV all the time. several friends with basic LS sandrails i know have switched to U-joint type axles cuz the CV keep breaking, but that could be cuz they are constantly moving up/down all the time.
