ANOTHER GREEN YJ

Recently got a bender and bend tech 3-d. Started bending about a week and half ago. Its very slow going with a wife and 3 kids...
Started on the front with a stinger and a radiator hoop.

And the start of cage.

Wasnt sure if I wanted to do a new dash, but it took about 30 sec to remove the stock one, So I guess now im gonna start lookin for some bling gauges and sheet metal.

Still need to tie the back into the frame and X behind the seats and X the top. Im also gonna get new seats and tie them into the cage. I think hard stuff is behind me just a lot of tedious peices to put in.
I know it looks like another green yj (the main hoop) but I told rockape I was gonna copy him Plus he has given me lots of advise and tips.

Somthing simple. Maybe make a long hoop that will drop about 8 inches and hang it from the tube above the dash, then skin it with some sheet metal. Probably run the /\ in the windshield down through the dash and conect it into the tube under the seats?

If i do that I would need more pole. I was thinkin of just runin the rear pole straight down and through the body to the chassis.

what is the point of having a stinger and a grill hoop if neither of them are tall enough to actually do anything in the event of a roll over i thought that was the point of a stinger and grill hoop combo

a stinger larger than your hood does nothing. its there to keep you from going over front ways....watch a lot of backwards rollovers and the stinger does nothing but get bent. watch the famous rocakape backflip and notice his stinger goes by-by....ever seen an 80s truck with huge lift blocks and 4 shocks per corner...fads come and go...as will huge as stingers

x2000

My stinger was done in 5 mins, I made mine tall so it will keep the vitals safe. After rockapes roll at moonrocks I was sold on them. He didnt even scratch his hood...

Stingers dont have to be taller than the hood. I looked at many before deciding how I wanted mine to look. I dont like huge boner lookin stingers. a small stinger protruding out enough can do the same thing without bending. Mine was made based on a line from the top of the cage down to the top of stinger. The line is about 6-8 inches above the hood.

The radiator hoop is above the hood. Maybe from the other angles it looks lower. The stinger is actually about even with the hood. Even if it is lower, I can care less about sctraches and dents to the hood. Its there to protect the RADIATOR not the hood.
By the way how about some progress pics on that suki? or is it still sitting in the driveway?

The fishing trip was pretty gay, was more like a beer drinkin trip...The back just didnt look right, started measuring again and there was no way the hardtop was gonna fit back on. So I had to take 3 inches out of the main hoop and sleeve it back together. Then I bent up to more peices for the back. Should get this thing wraped up this weekend, gonna go get some seats today!

Went and got some new seats. Only problem is im 6'3" 275lbs, its kinda a tight squeeze. I have the seats as low as I can get them and i dont have much clearance around my head.
Gonna add two more small peices of tube then Im done! except welding it all together, at6taching it too the frame. and painting it.

Did you get those at Kragen? I picked up 2 pairs the other week for my pops and me. So you make the 5th person I know thats running these seats.

Cage is looking really good. I see some thinks I plan to steal from your build

Ya same seats, Only difference is you got yours more like a couple of months ago and they're still sitting in your garage. I got mine yesterday and installed them yesterday! You also got that killer sale price, i paid $150 per seat. They are real comfortable just pretty big. I like that they fold forward, slide, and recline.

God Im a tard at wrenching. Always takes me twice. Pretty disappointed today.

finally got to work on this again. Pulled the whole cage out to start welding on it. Welding these things while still in must be a pain...Pulling it made it pretty easy once I figured out my new welder.

Also got my harnesses from summit.

Its all welded just need paint it and clean the tub up and get like 6 people help me put it back in

Hell maybe I would get to the seats if I could get this damn engine sqaured away. Worked on it friday night, worked on it sat for after till after midnight. Thought everything was in order start it up this morning I blew an exhaust gasket out and the one I did last night was leaking.

God Im a tard at wrenching. Always takes me twice. Pretty disappointed today.
Hey Keith, with your exhaust woes... run a straight edge across the flange and see if it's level, if not you can use a belt sander to level it out, if you feel incompetent take it to a machine shop and they will machine it for you, and torque it evenly, unfortunately if they have thin flanges they will warp real quick, (time to pony up some cash and get something with thicker flanges, how is the rest of the exhaust supported ?? because that will pull on the headders and also warp them....( Sanderson makes a real good headder, as well as Doug Thorley) but they ain't cheap.... check out www.centuryperformance.com The owner is Sam Solace, he is located on w 7th st. (he runs an internet based auto performance buisness) Jim used to work for him a few years back (Jim worked at Advanced Automotive) I have delt with him many times and he is extremely knowledgeable.. but a good guy...he carries Sanderson and Doug Thorley stuff as well as Borla....

Havent posted in a while and I havent done much work on this. Got the cage out welded it up, painted it and herculined the tub. Then got the cage back in, what a pain in the ass to do by your self. Tonight I started mounting the cage to the frame and bolting down the seats.
This was the front. Was pretty easy just scary cutting the the sliders on my back with a cutting weel :frown: The back was a pain. Had to cut holes in the body then fish down some tube with a bend in it to clear the fuel lines and the tailgate hinge mounts.

The rest of the cage. Total bends in the cage counting frame mounts is 30. Total tube lost count after 100' ( i think about 140 with the stinger and radiator hoop)

Cool thing is after all this work ITS NOT GONNA WHEEL ANY BETTER THAN BEFORE.

Havent posted anything about my jeep, but Ive been doing a few small things to it, mainly collecting parts.

My jeep is sprung under so to get a few more inches of clearance I went to that spring shop on sunshine lane. He made me up some new u-bolts. Then I welded the original spring plate to some new perches and filed the u-bolts.
Before

After.

I picked up an AW4 from some clown a while back and I finally got around to getting all the extra parts he didn’t have. I also got the AW shift controller with some switches, shifter, and lights. Would like to get this in asap but just haven’t had the time…

Grabed a tera low 4:1 conversion kit from TOR.

It was pretty easy to install. Only bitch was getting the bearings out of the front out-put shaft on the old t-case. Had to make a press with a jack, some scrap steel and a 1 1/8” socket. It popped right out.

Also got these from dead&co. They’re just sitting in the yard for now. The plan is to put them in this winter with air shocks, 3 link front and rear and 40’s or 42’s. But ive also been looking at some wrecked tj’s and thinking maybe I should just start a new project…
