Started Four link today

So I started the four link today. Just spent the day removing the springs, shocks, old brackets etc.. From quick measurements it looks like I'll go from 100 to 112. the tabs I got from ruff stuff will allow me to have triangulated upper and lowers. Any tips, tricks or suggestions so maybe I won't have to redo it four times to get it right?

It was time to retire the spring setup.

I just got tired of twisting spring packs. Was gonna just use tj coils but Rockape made me a good deal on fox 2.0 air shocks.

First pic is at approx 114 second pic is around 110-112 give or take an inch or two...

I think it all comes down to on what you can fit. You could copy the rear suspension on my green jeep... At least you know it works and fits under a yj...

So what types of angles am I supposed to try and get? Is a triangulated system better or should I make the lowers straight? I have been playingwiththe link calculator but it is all Greek to me.

I try to follow a few set rules when building link set ups,... Making the links as flat as possible at ride height... AS around 80-90%... chassis side links 2/3rds verticle separation of what is at the axle( example axle vert separation 12"... Chassis would have 8" )

I also like the upper links slightly longer than the lowers as it makes the pinion angle rise when drooped out... Helping your driveline angle...

Just know even the worst built rear link set up is still better than leafs!

I made my lowers straight...result was a lot of rear steer when it flexed. Was very frustrating. But I'm 3 linked in rear so that was probably a factor too.

That sounds like an exibit saying....yo dawn I heard you like rear steer so I added rear steering to your rear steer.
I plan on double triangulating the rear. Anything will be better than spring packs that twisted every run. And ill have you know I have done 7 mph before and nothing broke.

The down side to the setup in the pic above is the lower link crossmember makes fixing it a bitch... Plus they will bend, thats alot of pressure in the middle of a tube with lot of distance between the rails... Then the more you brace it, the more tubes in the way.

It still comes down to how it all fits... And ease of fixing it. Lots of rigs have rear steer , you get used to it....

thats what I was looking at. The driveline wants to hit it. I have seen a few different things, but I might come off the back off my skid plate. Its all 1/4 with 2x3 tube so it should support the extra load then I can add a link to each side of the driveline. But not sure if I will have much separation between the upper and lowers at the frame side. Waiting on a few more tabs then I can mock everything up.

And how do I post a pic of me going 7mph? As far as video, I got some go pro . Fine you caught me I was really doing six mph.

I prefer triangulated lowers. if you can't get that much triangulation, at least get the upper link mounts up inside the frame rails so you don't hang up on them.

Link geometry is different on each rig. Antisquat is affected by not just link geometry, but alot of other factors -including center of gravity- which can be VERY different on each rig.

Also, the prefered A/S # can be different for various driving styles. There is no magic #'s that works for everyone.

As far as your wheelbase, I like the shorter one. But I prefer shorter rigs(mine is only 103"ish)
With a shorter rig, it doesn't need to be as tall (lower CG)for a good break over angle and it's more manuverable in the tight stuff we have around here.

But hey, this is all just my opinion

So got some work done today. Chopped the back half of the frame off and tacked the link mounts in. Do the angles look close?

only input i have is on the lower's id add one more link to the driverside one mor to the upper and some sort of truss to the diff for the upper's....oh and no enough seperation at the axle so far great way to attach the shock ton's of droop that way

I had to completely re do mine after putting all kinds of thought and research into it...when I re-did I just did what looked good and I thought would work. I threw the link calculator out the window!

The shocks might be a little too close to the tires. Nothing a longer shock bracket wouldn't cure. Still have to add the other shock to the passenger side, and then redo my brakes, add the disks, rebuild the back half of the frame, redo the floor.....and the list goes on.

Thanks to Rockape I got my shocks charged. Sits high right now but there is no tank and I still have to back half the jeep. Getting closer but its all the little things that take forever.

I think its cause the phone got run over the last time we went to Bronco. The camera was scratched really bad so I used a polish to remove the scratchs but it also removed the glare reducer coating so pics outside really suck. Plus the sun is always behind the jeep. But those ones do really suck...and they look weird too, like they are scrunched.

I thought the pics were like we are seeing it like big blue does.... Who knew they had tweaker lenses ? I seen fish-eye, long range and panoramic... Now tweaker-eye!

Took it out today. Works better than I could have imagined. Just have to get used to how it unloads on drops. Here are a few pics of how its sits now.
