Whats the advantage to fitting a dana 70 set of gears into a rear dana 60 housing(other than maybe you have a bunch of brackets on it already)....D70u has the same gears as a HD d70...with d60 sized side bearings!

I didnt know anybody but rock boucers broke dana 60 gears with any kind of frequecy.....

what gears have you calculated to work the best for your top speed/wheelin?

Smaller Housing/ ground clearance. Suppose you could just shave a D70 too
Really it's just because I already had the narrowed housing. I only wanted stronger gears, because I'm going so low.

Wich brings us to:

I'm going to run 7.17 r&p. Here's why:

In low range (4.7:1) I had no problem with 4.88's, But in high range(1:1), My anemic 22r with an auto didn,t have the power to pull first gear on the hills, especially with the stock torque converter. 2K stall didn't let the turbo come on and the engine just bogged.

With 7.17's my 2nd gear in will be only slightly higher than my 1st was with 4.88's plus I'll have my new lower 1st. This , along with my new 3K stall converter, I shouldn't have to shift to low range every time I hit a moderatly steep hill.

What about top end??
Well, since I'm using a 4 speed OD trans It shoud be just fine.
Most of KOH last year I ran in 2nd gear, only barely hitting 3rd a couple of times- never touched 4th (in high range)
With the new gears, I should be in 3rd most of the time, and just hitting 4th/OD when flat out.

The A340H has a .71 4th gear,
7.17's with a .71 OD is the same as using 5.09's with a 3 speed(th350/th400, ect)

So I'll have taller gearing than most U4 cars and more top end gearing than I can pull with my 4cyl.

An easier/cheaper way ,since I'm running a Toyota powertrain, would be to just run duals with D60 3.54's in the diffs. Then I could just run most of the fast stuff in stock single low'

But......1. There's not enough room in my chassis for anothe t-case. And 2. The load on my t-case outputs is reduced by over 50% by having the gearing in the axles instead of the t-cases.

I've spent way too much time thinking about all this shit I just hope the six teeth on those D70 pinions hold up

are those Moser shafts tapered in the middle, or do they have the same dia all the way through.

on my 40 spline mosers they are not tapered, and i wish they were to give a little. this might be why i go through R&Ps

Is your cage 1.5 or 1.75? heared they were not going to allow 1.5" cages anymore

project looks good, almost motivates me to work on mine, too bad its 4 degrees in my garage

The Mosers are not tapered.

Cage size is based on weight. I need to keep it under 3200# to be legal with my 1.5" cage. I believe it is "recomended" in '13 and will be required in '14 if your not grandfathered in by racing this year.

Have not weighed the buggy, I'm hoping it's under 3200# race ready, full tank, spare parts, tools, ect. with nobody in it

Well, not a lot to show. It's been one step forward 10 steps back on a buch of stuff
The welded carriers warped, making gear set up next to impossible. I had the front machined an got a detriot for the rear $700 ouch.
Got the front knuckles cut and turned and some knuckle mods for double shear "mid-steer"- Thanks Larsen
Moved the cutting brake & line lock, and got some re-painting done.

I will post more pics when I get further along. Work/life gets in the way of shop time sometimes

It's alive!!! Drove the buggy.....Uh?...I mean "Car" today. It's no V8, But it's alot better off the line with the new gears and converter
It was a bit muddy

The welded front really loads the susp. when turning on the street, or with good traction going slow.

Some pretty good front driveline vibes too. Hmmm.

Also the brakes work good, but I have to give them a pump Is my 1 1/8" or 1 1/16" (can't remember what it is?)master too small for 4 monty carlo (GM metric) calipers??

Don't want a dead Batt. to end my race , so I made a mount for this:

I jacked up the front and put it in gear, front only obviously, and my homemade driveshaft isn't as straight as I thought it was Time to rebuild it again. Toyota ends with 1.75"x .25 wall dom. It can't be any bigger in dia. or it will hit my upper link mount when it flexes.

They are a "sticky" not as sticky as a Krawler but more than a KRT-B- so I'm told.

I don't think Nitto sells the KOH spec.
Nitto sponsered drivers.........or thier friends

Actually the Nitto requires the tires be returned at the end of the year (so they don't get sold, and non-dot's end up on the street.-Liability thing I guess).
So the tires are actually more or less on loan for the year.

Yes, I'm planning on Legends class for 2015. Probably end up with some dot 37" Nittos for that, If all goes well. The 40's might be a little too big for my rig anyway

Just to be clear. I'm not a a sponsored racer. I have a friend who is, and he was nice enough to let me use a set of his extra tires. His new car will not be 6 lug, so he gave me a bro deal when I bought the rims. I must give him the tires back when Nitto asks him for them.

OK. Time to update this thread.
sorry no pics- I only have a work computer which restricts my ability to post pics

Anyway, I ran the EMC Legends in Feb. the rig ran well but, like most, we ran into a lot of traffic. We made a good pass in the jam up on Jack Hammer taking the far right line and kept going until we timed out around RM 89ish. we ran the entire course, just not the first "desert" loop the second time.

We cracked the frame, wasted an air shock and broke a sway bar link, but the car was still drivable.

I decided I'm not racing again unless I get better shocks. the airs worked about as good as I could get them, but they're no 2.5 C/O.
The turbo 22r had plenty of power- more than I could use with my susp.

So I still have air shocks and I am installing a bigger engine- I'm so backward.

I cut off the front end at the firewall and installing a GM Supercharged 3800 v6.

The price of shocks alone has kept me outta any kind of koh racing...$10k for 8 ahocks... Its half the cost to build another replicant!

Ill bet you'll like that 3800... The nice thing about s/c are they make serious bottom end torque. Much more useable power in the rpm range most of our rigs spend their life in!

Exactly!
The turbo had just enough lag to make "bumping" up ledges difficult if not impossible to time correctly. I'm looking forward to the instant power. Hopefully it's not too snappy.

What kind of boost do those motors make in stock form? I would guess like 6-8psi maybe.
