Cab Over Camper advice

looking for a older lightweight cab over for my short bed dodge,

lots of cab overs for sale for long beds

what issues will i have running a long bed cab over on my short bed

my trailer alread has a toung extension, so thin im good there, I have airbags

how far can i go past my truck bed? center of gravity issues? towing issues? do i need to stick with a short bed camper? Looking for advice with folks who have experience in this?

anyone got one for sale?

Why not find a 5th wheel deck over trailer and put a cab over on the front of that?

Maybe LD will chime in and tell ya a long bed camper in a short bed will look and work ok...

I had an 11' 6" cab over on my SuperDuty. So, 3' 6" hung off the back (and it came down even with the bottom of the bumper). I had an extension for my class V to flat tow my jeep. The drop down part is where they put the shower with holding tank.

IMHO air bags are a must for cab over

good idea, but its not just for wheeling, want to still tow the boat, sleds, jetskis, use for hunting

im a little concerned about some of those extensions for the tow reciever, my trailer has a lot of toung weight as is

im hoping i can get a camper designed for a long bed, to use on my shortbed

I have heared it can screw with your CG and make difficult to drive

You probably could get away with it,as long as you used the airbags to level out the truck....but then add the trailer and I think you are looking for trouble....im pretty sure the reason that long beds have the rear wheels more to the rear( than centered in the bed like the shortbeds do )is to add stability when a heavy weight is in the bed or being towed....

Guess the trade in soon light is on in that dodge!!!

I had a Lance 8.6 and used it with my '97 Ford F250 shortbed. I would put the tailgate down and it would come right to the rear edge of it. My trailer tongue was long enough that I didn't have to use a tongue extension and it had a shower and toilet in it. Never had any issues towing with it and had no swaybars front or rear.......Wish I wouldn't have sold it.............

I have a 8.5 camper that I tow my buggy behind but I have a long bed. I would not worry to much about the cog stuff too much. Air bags are a must! My cabover weighs 2200 pounds loaded and just that on the truck you can feel it! I have a 06 Chevy 3/4 ton. If you would like and have the time you are welcome to load my cabover on to get a idea of what it feels like!

I have had several 8.6 campers on my shortbed trucks.. Air bags are the way to go they really take the sway out making it managable to drive. Your have to get some sort of step set up as you wont be able to use your bumper getting in and out.

Forgot to say I did and do have air bags in the rear of my truck so I'm sure that helped

sweet, so it sounds like 8.6 would be as long as I want to go, I dont really want to modify my trailer hitch or get an extension
thanks
