My top speed isn't very impressive, with only a 4cyl. I can prob. go about 40mph. I dont really notice it that much, my front square driveline is bent also, so everything shakes.

ok with the new rig came some new tires so here is my impression
tire size: 38.5
rims: beadlocks
Psi: 6
they hooked up well and had plenty of bite. they seemed to flex well on the rocks too. i will keep them on for a while to see how i like them but im thinking about switching to the iroks i have sitting in the shop doing nothing.

Does or has anyone used a Mickey Thompson MTZ for any decent rock crawling or off-roading. If so how well did they do? NVScouter I know you said you put a set on your dd/Tow rig, did you ever get a chance to try them on any rocks or tuff terrain? How many miles have you gotten out of them?

Also while on the subject has anyone tried those new Pro Comp Xtreme mud tires?

tires :40x13.5R17 goodyear MTR kevlar dot's
wheel: 17x9.5 raceline beadlocks

so with that said I think they blow goats for quarters. In the rocks they seem to not hook up as well as the bfg km2's I had before that were 37" The sidewalls are weak as shit. In the snow I have to drop them down to 4psi and with my rig being heavy it looks like the tires completely flat. On the street if you don't run them at full pressure the side lugs wear off like you sat and did a burn out the entire time. The only thing they did seem to do really well on is in the ice for some weird reason they grab halfway decent.

Thats why i'm having a hard time finding whats an honest answer from people and pretty much won't listen to shit that a magazine or website like pirate says. I've also seen a lota people who haven't ran a variety think their tire is a the greatest ever cause it wheels better than their buddys rig which totally makes a difference too. But I know my experience of the MTR's vs the KM2s are on the same trails with the same rig and the MTR's were 3" bigger so they shoulda walked all over the KM2s but they don't

I can't vouch for the DOT GY's at all, never ran them. But the sticky's work good, they're comperable to a krawler in every way but size, the 40's really are 40's!

Having said that, i've run:

37in red label krawlers
39in red label krawlers
39in KRT/B's
40in creepy crawlers
40in trepadors
37in trepadors
40in GY MT/R stickys
42in GY MT/R stickys

every tire has it plusses and minuses.

Krawlers run small for there size, and the sidewalls crack at the rubber molding seam, which can tear apart the cap of the tire if snagged properly

the KRT/B's are bad ass. 9 ply's, kevlar, and sticky, probalby the least sticky, sticky tire i've ever ran, but work just fine for me, these are what i plan to stay with for a while.

Creepys were fucking heavy... hard to get broke in, but worked good, and will last forever

trepadors were a great tire, heavy again, only thing i didn't like was the lateral traction, they pushed in uphill off camber turns

GY's stick same as a krawler, sidewalls flex better and don't require as low of air pressure, they worked just fine the 3 times i have used them.

FYI I am not sponsored by any of these tire MFG's, and have either borrowed or paid for all the tires listed above that i have personal experiance with.

NOW, you want a real go fast kick ass tire? the general grabber red letter...

They fucking rock, end of discussion.... for high speed, handling, drifting and flat out bulletproofness. ran V2r with no flats this year, and the tires looked almost new 500+ miles later.

rock crawling? Meh.... I ran them at KOH 10, and finished on them with open diff's the whole 136 mile race. It was a struggle. The largest they come in is a 37, and they're designed as a desert race tire.

Odd's are I will get a set of the DOT red letter's for my new dodge when the time comes. They're a great tow rig tire also.

And I'm NOT Sponsored by them, just really beleive they make a good product.

Goodyear Duratrac's 285/70/17's have been using them for the last few months on the DD/Tow Rig. Tires handle very well, have great traction on dry/wet/icy/snowy roads. They clear out like a great mud tire, and sound better than an all terrain. The wear is excellent (cummins quad cab) tows nicely. so for the $$$ these are it !!! and they ran about $900ish from the tire rack.

love my new MTRs (40") sticky, 1st stickys i have owned, one thing i noticed is that they pick up sand and little pebbles and throw them in the cab, probably because they are sticky, i probably remove 10lbs of sand from the cab after a day on the trail.

they wear quick, but i expected that, climbing stuff i never have before

My IROKS do the same thing. I think it's the siping. The cut opens up and grabs the sand/pebbles and then tosses it right at my face.

Since this thread hasnt seen any action in some time.....

I recently came up on a set used of 37" Maxxis Treps for my single seater and Im pretty happy with their performance, they stick at the very least as good as the 39" Krawlers that came off of that rig.

Overall the little buggy seems to work better due to the added steering angle created by the smaller tire.
